A life below deck

Working on cruise ships might seem glamorous. But nights at sea can leave you feeling a little lost sometimes and lead to bad choices, dangerous blood alcohol levels, and feverishly hilarious tendencies when confined for too long in a cell-sized cabin.

Lauren, like many cruise ship entertainers, has found herself on yet another contract at sea. But despite the job security, beautiful ports, connections with people and audiences and the satisfaction that comes from landing these coveted jobs, she can’t help but feel a little lost.

Nights at crew bar seem to be the medicine for most but when alcohol is your downfall, or at least the catalyst for countless bad decisions the temptation to withdraw seems appealing. Until the cabin fever sets in. This memoir of life at sea is a poignent and scandalous account of a career spent below deck.

Inspired by nights exploring hidden jazz dens in foreign ports comes an evening of music and storytelling that will leave you with the same sense of wanderlust that keeps these entertainers taking contract after contract.
